hitachi fine on reading fw but clicking

September 25th, 2011, 12:48

Try to understand how to solve this, i have got Hitachi 5450, clicking fast.
put in safe mode i can read correctly all modules from SA-A,B,C and also nvram and rom.
put back in SA-A still clicking

heads are good, try to swap them to identical drive and works perfectly, so i put back to patient drive.

You tried patient heads in donor, but did you try donor heads in patient?

Strange. Try what pcimage suggested, disable some heads in NV-RAM and see what happens.

i have just tryed changing head map by reversing couple in NvRAM , and hdd now stop clicking, go to ready but no ID's - no SA and no data area access.
i will give a try to upload fw modules on the reversing couple of head map..

after changing head map and uploading fw to the head, the hdd at the next power on still cliccking even if the couple heads are different..
so i try to use another pcb, same model same family same sticker on white label of the pcb.
i uploaded on the pcb the Nvram of patient.
the hdd goes to ready but not ID (->error on the console when i press load from hdd) but i can read all fw modules from sa-a,b,c nvram rom.
i can't go to user data.
any  i am :? of this behaviour
