Stolen Laptop was reimaged by thief.

A thief installed Windows on stolen Vista laptop. Owner has recovered laptop and wants me to determine if there are any recoverable data files (.jpg photos). I told the owner that in there is a good chance that the data was over-written and unrecoverable, but it make sense to try to recover any data that (by chance) has not been overwritten.

I would like to hear recommendations for software to recover files from someone that does this professionally or has 3+ years of experience. My Google seach has produced way to many choices, but seriously thinking about photorecThank you.

I am comfortable with Unix systems (boot discs) if there are good linux tools for file recovery.
