Seagate 500GB Momentus 7200 2.5 inch, recognized - no access

October 12th, 2011, 2:33

Hey everyone,
One year old drive. Worked great until today, computer got slow and then blue screen. Bad sectors. Attempted CHKDSK /R. Bad idea....

I got a new drive, installed a fresh Windows 7 and connected the drive via USB.
Drive recognized by Bios and Windows 7 but every time I try to access the drive through explorer or any other program through Windows 7 nothing moves. I can't access the drive or see the content. Windows 7 "claims" that I should format the drive.

Any suggestions?
What next?

Thanks,

This could be a trillion things.
Most probably there is a mechanical or fw problem with your disk. These disks are prone to fw problems (and also mechanical  ), so there isn't much to say.
I would try to see if disk shows contents using a Linux LiveCD. If not, then proper diagnostics are needed i'm afraid.

I actually had some experience with faulty mechanical drives. The drive and engine seem to be just fine.
Any other way of accessing the disk or burning a image? Can anyone recommend a software to access the disk either through Windows 7 or a bootable one?

Thanks,

No, not without proper tools.
My vote on this one is bad translator.
