Hi to all
I have hitachi 5k500 laptop hdd with pasword. I do not care about data on it and have no need for it.
Is there a way to reset password (i did find that there is reset for pata disk but for sata i could not find)?
i have no access to password and user that has locked it is no longer reacheable.

You wont be able to do it yourself as you would need specialist hardware that costs thousands of $$$$$ or you could take it to a data recovery company and ask them to do it for you but it would still cost more than getting a new hard drive.

It won't help you, but this is how you do it with Salvation Data's HD Doctor for Hitachi.
http://replay.web.archive.org/200901222 ... itachi.pdfhttp://www.salvationdata.com/blog/hdd-r ... ols-10052/I don't know how much the Hitachi tool costs, but the equivalent HD Doctor for Seagate costs around US$600. You can sometimes pick them up in a used condition for $300.

The post by fzabkar refers to the proceedure for an old IC25N30ATCS04-0 Hitachi model from about 2005 era. Not much use really!
