Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Greetings,
Looking for advice on the best way to recover my HDD from iMAC.
The drive is a:
WD1001FALS-40Y6A0
DCM: HBRNNTJABB
I have determined that the PCB is not functioning properly. I removed it from the iMAC and put it into a sled and can hear some faint electrical "clicks" from the PCB, but the drive does not spin up.
I went to BestBuy and bought a 1TB Caviar Black,...different model number and swapped the PCB. The drive spins up, but it is not seen by the MAC OS laptop that I had the sled plugged into.
Looking for advice/info on recovering this drive and/or finding a compatible PCB.
Thanks in advance!

You have to find matching PCB, reprogram it and then you can try to work with that drive.

The pcb of these drives contain adaptive data which are unique.
That is why swapping the pcb did not work.
In order to transfer this data from one pcb to another, you need specialized equipment (which cost 10,000$) or send it to a pro in your area who would do it for you for a small fraction of this.
At this point it shouldn't be costly.
But if you attempt DIY things can go REALLY bad.
Alternatively, you could try and repair the old pcb, but this is dangerous too.

Figures,...that would have been too easy :-/

This was more of a naive assumption given that the swapping of the PCB allowed for the drive to at least spin up.
At this point I will have to send this out to a data recovery shop. I have never done this before,...any recommendations on a service company for this? The only data I want from it are the pictures stored in iPhoto.
Again, I thank you all for your time in responding to my plee.

You say that the drive clicks with the original PCB, but does not spin. This would suggest that the drive is at least trying to spin up.
Could we see a photo of the component side of the PCB?
After spinning up the drive with the replacement PCB, did you try the original board once more?
