a) Stop all activities at that specific disk. Do NOT write ANYTHING, do not defrag, do not checkdisk, do not install any software, do not do anything.

b) Install R-Studio on a DIFFERENT drive, NOT the one that you want to recover. The trial version of this software is free.

c) Run R-Studio and ask it to scan the drive in question. Check that you also want to scan for known file types (just in case).

d) Let R-Studio finish. When it finishes, it will display a list of partitions. Select the green one.

e) Check the list. If it contains the files you need, then buy the software to obtain a license, recover the files to a DIFFERENT drive, and then hug your kid from me. If not, check other folders, your pics may be there.

f) If you can't find your pictures, check on the known file types folders created by R-Studio. Most probably you can see them there in raw format, which is ok, since we are after pictures, and not for example, mp3's. If you find them there, hug your kid, recover the files and go to sleep.

g) If all the above fails, you can try some other software, like GDB, but seriously I doubt you will get anything. In this case, perhaps you could consult a pro.

Good luck.

I'd rather recommend you to use R-Undelete. It has the same data recovery engine as R-Studio, but is easier to use for a non-professional file recovery. The article So, what do you have to do to get deleted files back? explains what to do exactly in your case.

What OS are you running?

Windows 7 has previous versions which you could use to recover the deleted folder as long as it is enabled on the partition.

If using home version then you will need a 3rd party software call shadow explorer.
