Swapping 2.5" platter

Hi all Gurus,
I have a 2.5" 125gb Fujitsu hard drive that is dead showing no signs of life or anything on bios.
I also have a fully working 2.5" 250gb Toshiba hard drive.
Would it be possible to swap the platter from the faulty Fuji into the Tosh as i need to get some data off?
I am a newb to HD internals your help would be appreciated

I understand the drives are different data sizes but surely the platters are the same physical size and fitment. they are not stacked platters there single layer. would they not read the same like putting in different cd's in a disk drive look for zero and start..?

If you attempt this you will fail, and most likely cause the drive to forever unrecoverable by any means.

If the data is important, take it to a pro for a proper diagnosis

Thanks for the responses. Data recover is far to expensive. The motor does not spin up so i think it could quite possibly be the PCB faulty which is easy enough to replace as long as i get the maching model and firmware, correct?

You will need to transfer adaptives on this disk. You *may* be in luck and find the ROM to be external, but on the newer Fujitsu they began to embed into MCU.

Again, no. Sorry. Pcimage or hddguy can do it for you. If it is only the pcb, it shouldn't be THAT costly.

Here are your options, as I see it.

1. Give up, lose your data and save your money
2. Try DIY, lose your data and lose your money
3. Try PCImage, save your data and lose your money

I cannot speak for PCImage, but most labs give a free quote. If you find the quote by the pro too much, then you can decide between #1 and #2.
