Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
I have a 500 gb Lacie Bigdisk that mounts on my mac but shows no files. I did not delete them or do anything when I saw this.
It used to say 270gb was used and the rest was free even when no files showed.
I used Disk Utility to Verify, then it froze. Then used Repair and that worked but then the drive had 500gb free.
So where has it gone?
I ran Data Rescue II on Thorough scan mode. Only one folder showed with nothing inside.
I don't know if the drive is formatted on a mac as it is not mine. But it is set to FAT32 MS DOS.
Any ideas? Is the reader down? Could dust have affected it?

I think you had better stop before it is really too late on this one. You should never of put this on your Mac and on top of it run all these Mac utilities on it. Sure hope the owner of that drive will not be too angry at you for doing this one. You might have a chance to save this mess if you can find a PC and see if you have destroyed all the data in there. Do not keep playing around with this one on your Mac. Worse off on this mess you might get by with a recovery program or raw recovery on this one.
