wd740adfd (raptor) pcb swap

December 5th, 2011, 3:40

Hi,

I've a wd740adfd-00nlr1 (raptor) with dead pcb (probably motor ship), there's a short around D3, but pcb still shorted when D3 removed. Pcb is 2060-701384-002

I've also a donor with same model & dcm, but pcb number is 2060-701453-000 revA.
And another one with pcb 2060-701384-002, but model is wd3600adfd-00nlr1.

I have swaped U12 chip, tried with both PCB, not working. On these models should I also swap memory chip ?

Is there another way to solve this DR case ?

WD360 PCB should work with ROM chip swap. Is drive clicking and spinning down?

Maybe what killed the PCB also killed the preamp??

"Unfortunately" no… I mean, if it was clicking and spinnig down, I could have had some way to solve…

Disk is spinning normaly, never slow down or stop or retry and stay "as is". I can't hear typic calibration noise with heads seeking… Just nothing happened. Heads are coming on the platters, and nothing more.

No detection by linux kernel, no reaction of my sata-usb adaptator. Just nothing else spinning and waiting :(

Do a hot swap and see if you can access anything.

Sorry for my bad english : what do you mean by "hot swap" ?
I already tried to swap PCB with and without eeprom swap, with both models, and cross tested : no results…

What tool(s) are you working with?

With my soldering iron and my brain. I'm creating my DR Cie and until 2013 I can't make more money than 40000$/year. Not enough to invest this year. Will contact a bigger DR Cie for this case.
