Re: a logic board swap. If we get the right board with the same number printed on the PCB. Is that all that is required?

I don't know if I updated the frimware on the drive at anytime so that might be different.

Would be more helpful if you gave more info about the issue/fault?
Full drive model & serial etc
Does the drive power up? ie can you feel the platters spinning?
Does it make a clicking sound?
Is the drive seen by BIOS?
Is the drive seen as 0LBA?

Modern Seagate HDDs store drive specific information in a serial flash memory chip. This chip, or its contents, would need to be transferred from patient to donor.

I believe I bought 3x the same HDD together. Seagate ST3500320AS 7200.11, firmware on unit - SD1A. 1 of which has been sent back for warranty, which they gave me a new one - 7200.12.

Now I have 2x the same still. One has upgraded the firmware and works fine.
The one in question, I broke the SATA connector, so I solder ironed the wires to it. Physically the motor works but in BIOS it is not detected at all.

Because I have 1 other drive exactly the same, with the same logic board 100466725 (I compared them). I swapped the logic board from the working drive to my broken connector drive. It gets detected in BIOS but it gets a rattling sound. Once in Windows 7, new hardware is detected however under Disk Management it says disk not initialised. If I initialise it, it cannot.

So my question is that do you think that a new logic board won't help .... and your advice please ..... Thanks.

I have heard that some people who had fried their logic board could get a swap and it worked??

Broken SATA connector (data). Thje SATA power connector is in tact.

If you swap the two boards, do both drives identify itself themselves with a model number of ST_M13FQBL? If so, then that will prove that the SATA data connections are OK.

Also, try powering up each board on its own, ie removed from the drive.
