Need Samsung HD154UI Firmware

December 13th, 2011, 8:54

Hi Guys

I'm new, so apologies if this is the incorrect forum.

I'm using 4 Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB drives in RAID5 configuration on my home server, 1 of the drivers is being reported as "At Risk", its a new drive and my past experience of RAID on the office servers is this can often caused by faulty firmware, so I'm looking for the latest version for this drive, but the Samsung website doesn't even appear to list it and Google is not turning up any download links

I'd really appreciate if anybody could point me in the right direction of where I can download it from.

Many Thanks
K

I suggest you use whatever management s/w you have for that RAID, to see what problem is really being reported with that drive. That message often means there is a SMART failure.

I wouldn't spend any time trying to find new firmware, based on the reported symptom, which could be a waste of your (and our) time. IMHO finding the real problem will be much more efficient. :) Investigate the error message...

RAID5 offers redundancy, remove and replace failed disk.

FW for the HDD itself will not benefit you at all.

Hi

I do appreciate the advise, but that is not what I'm asking, I'm simply asking for advise on where to find the Firmware.

I've no problem with replacing the drive, but its a SMART error, over the past 5 years I've had several similar issues with the servers at our NOC, at least 20% of the time (not scientifically measure ;)) this was resolved by upgrading the firmware on the drive and the RAID controller.

So while your right, replacing the drive etc will be the most likely resolution, I want to be sure.

Ill could post FW here, but what realistically can you do with it? The FW is read and written to reserved parts of the HDD, reserved areas that cannot be accessed without specialist and expensive tools.

Another option would be recertify the disk, but, again and unfortunately, it cannot be done by end user.
