sr3500310na ns04 FW Issue

December 13th, 2011, 16:46

hi all, i got the barracuda in the object, it is an OEM drive and i can't access the terminal simply shorting the PCB. It seems to me the only solution is to update the FW to sn06 through standard sata connection and then try the terminal fix. I was wondering if anyone of you has done it before and if there is any save way to Updating through sata the FW.

Pls if you have done it already confirm that:

-I have to isolate the PCB to let the drive to be reconized from the updating software.
-Perform the update after i attach the pcb to the drive
-then run the solution trhough terminal

Thanks to all

To run the firmware update the drive must detect .

shouldn't it be reconized if I connect only the pcb(then before the update attach the pcb to the drive) or if i short it during drive inizializzation?

well it seems that seagate firmware update is fake, the link doesn't contain any flash.bat file! anyway you are right rameez as the pcb shows Model: ST_M13FQBL, Serial: XXXXX Firmware: 0414F34C so probably the update isn't going to work. I tryed to shot again i lost about 1 hour but still...

I can reach readness but all the terminal comands are blocked! no console available, has anyone solved the issue!?
thanks

@rameez i tried everything and still cant access the terminal, to try the update was a solution for Hp fw fix readed in a forum(cant tell what forum but i can pm you if you want), I tested the usb terminal on different drive and it works and i tried a solution used for drives with hp fw suggested from a dear friend that works for DR company as well, but still not luck! the prob is that the terminal doesn't seem to comunicate at all, i got ABR errors after i short the PCB and/or if i send any comand trought terminal. i really don't have any idea what it can be. The drive is an oem distribution but is it possible that seagate blocked the terminal command on it on it???:(
Even if i don't have any prove don't think is a corrupted rom as i can hear the heads initialize.
if anyone got an idea i'll gladly try it
thanks rameez and fzabkar

" ST_M13FQBL "

Hi, the fw is not read from ur drive, the text is a factory alias.
serial and model that u see are reported from the ROM on your terminal, later on the drive do not answer to comand in terminal. What software u use for diagnostic?

Hi, i use DE UDMA Acelab, yes the problem is that i can't access the terminal asci used for diagnose or fix i know that pcb from f3 architecture does usually send serial and model, even if this family behave as a WD as the model doesn't match the real one.
Anyway i do believe the problem is the FW

grazie
thanks

@fzabkar http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/supp ... DMoose.iso
the linke states new FW SN06 but when you download it hasn't got any flash.bat
it doesn't matter anyway as i don't think anymore it would help me to solve my case.
thanks

It's ISO file, you need to burn it on a cd or other medium, then reboot and start the computer from that media.

i did burn it and it doesnt boot, also i used isobuster to check the contain and it doesn't have any flash.bat

Extract the BootImage.img file. That's a 1.44MB floppy diskette image.

Now use WinImage to open the IMG file. You will see a ZIP file. The ZIP contains your flash.bat.

No, I believe it would be pointless to try. I was merely addressing your question regarding the file contents of the downloaded ISO.
