I don't think you have much chances.
That's precisely the reason that people uses encryption, so after loosing the key no one can recover it.

there is no solution for such case with out the key.

Double posting wont help
data-recovery-and-repair-t21588.htmlAs mentioned their is no way to bypass it or crack it instantly. The only way you can crack it is with a brute force attack which is what I posted in the original posting using software like Passware Kit Forensics.
Can you remember password length, if it has upper case, lower case, special case or mixed letters?
Realistically your chances are slim (even with the software) due to the time it can take to brute force the password.

the idea of encryption is security. If you lose the key and there is a possibility to 'break' it then it wouldn't be very secure in the first place.
Probably more than 80% of encryption related cases I see are a result of a user error...

I agree but Passware kit can recovery it quickly if it has been mounted automatically by taking a memory dump & then recovers it from that.
If the drive has not been mounted then a brute force attack can be done see

If i'm not mistaken, doesn't bitlocker create a security key somewhere in case someone messes things up with password?

As far as I remember you get prompted to insert a USB stick for the key?
Never used Bitlocker myself for security, decrypting with the key is pretty simple so I have never worked much with cases where key is lost.

If you bitlocker encryption on the system disk & you dont have a TPM chip on the motherboard then you have to use a usb drive which you have to plug in on boot up.
But any external drive you encrypt with bitlocker you get asked to save a key file which I'm guessing they have lost or deleted.
