Cannot Copy off remaining files...(WD My Passport Essential)

January 9th, 2012, 11:02

Hello,

EDIT: Sounds pretty darn similar to this recent post: http://forum.hddguru.com/western-digital-passport-wd10tmvw-locking-t21627.html

First time poster...

So i have a WD My Passport Essential 750GB and have been using so for a year to transfer files from on computer to another for this time.

Recently when copying some files the HD seems to hit a bad sector (or something) and disconnect and reconnect itself. (running Windows 7).

I have copied as many files as i can, but it seems that when it gets to these certain files it locks up.

I can run the files perfectly. I listened to the HD, no mysterious clicking sounds.

I also ran HDDreg on flash usb (i know it is frowned upon here ;) ) and left scanning overnight. Got about have way and hit a bad sector and it seems to do something similar when in Windows - stops process and says Drive is Not Ready. (switched to IDE same problem).

What should i do???

Thanks, twig :(

It seems like your drive has either a lot of bad sectors or a scratch.
