WD5000KMVW-11ZSMS0 reading instability

January 20th, 2012, 12:03

Hello

I have a WD5000KMVW-11ZSMS0 that is detected but after after couple of seconds lose connectivity(The drive never shut down, keeps spinning), after a minute start working again for 3 to 5 seconds(time to recognize the drive and see the partition) before losing connectivity again. This continues to happen repeatedly.

I open the drive and check the heads individually under microscope and they seem to be in perfect condition.

For now I don´t have a spare drive to start making some tests.

Someone already had the same kind of issue? any tips?

Thanks everyone :)

Did you check usb connection? More than often these get loose, maybe you've got some loose contact.

hmm , i have very limited experience with native USB boards unfortunately. If the drive keeps on recalibrating under PC3K environment - ima at a loss. I would however blame physical connection like Northwind suggests first.

Thank you for the tip northwind.

I tried to force USB connection several times until one of the attempts he remained connected. I am recovering the data.

Thanks a lot for your help guys :)
