Samsung 2.5 MP0804H REV. B MN40 FS with head crash

February 1st, 2012, 14:34

Hello guys :)

I received this drive with the clicking noise.

This drive have the heads map: 1, 0, 2, 3

I open the drive, removed the platters and I was able to see a head crash in the lower surface(Head 1)
I clean the heads and tried to power on the drive, in the log show some issues with head 1.
Made a hotswap and was able to read the modules, but some with errors. This was the ones with errors:

29 DLIST
2A GEO_00
2B TST_ZH
3A SMRT_HLG
3C HD_ERLOG
3D ELOG
6A HALT_TST
46 BIMODAL
56 M30CODE

After this I try to copy all the modules beside overlay module and damaged modules to the donor drive.
When I power on the donor drive again he show a strange S/N. I checked in both drives and the S/N didn´t match any of the drives.

After this I repaired manually the 29 DLIST module and now when I copy all the modules to the spare drive he already show the correct S/N from the patient drive.
I tried to do a smartswap but when I use the patient pcb in the donor drive the drive just power off a couple of seconds after. So I tried to do a hotswap using the donor pcb and I was able to read.
I open a task on PC3000, made the heads map and exclude the head 1. I started to read but after reading 22.000 sectors he loss reading. I already did the procedure again and after reading a couple of sectors I lose reading.

Can this append because I didn´t copy the damaged modules?
Are any of this modules really needed to be from the patient drive?

There is the modules from patient(HDR-0104-2) and from the donor drive I am using. The damaged modules are marked as "bad"

Any ideas in what I can do?

Thanks
