Burned PCB

While attempting to recover data from my parents' hard drive, I found that the Voice Coil Motor controller/motor chip/whatever else it is called (SMOOTH L7251 3.1) has been burned. I have a donor hard drive that it the same model (WD3200AAKS-00L9A0), LBA (625142448), PCB (2060-705190-000 Rev A), Voice Coil Motor controller/motor chip, and numbers on the barcode on the PCB (2061-701590-G00 AD).

The patient HDD's DCM: HGRNHT2CG; DATE: 23 JUN 2009
The donor HDD's DCM: HBNNHT2CE; DATE: 07 MAY 2009

After conducting more research, I have found that swapping the PCB's rarely works. I tried this and while I can hear the patient HDD power up, the computer cannot read it. During my research I read that I may have to transplant some of the chips on the PCB from the donor to the patient HDD. Neither have a BIOS chip at U12.

Any suggestions/help that anyone can provide would be appreciated?

Hi, As you don't have a U12...no chip is need to be moved.
That will only make thing's a bit harder, as it a 320Gb drive.
You will seek pro advice on this one

Agree with mr_spokke, U12 is not populated. Therefore you will require assistance from a pro with the appropriate tools.

Perhaps somebody here can help. What part of the USA are you located?

The DIY solution is to purchase either WD HD Pro (US$80 - $100) or WDR-UDMA (US$150). These software tools will allow you to regenerate and reprogram the ROM data from the appropriate firmware modules in the System Area on the platters.

AIUI, they both provide a single-click solution for this problem.

The forum thread that I linked to appears to have been deleted. It's a pity, because the software was very cheap and very useful. Hmmm ...

Anyway, you can still find the thread in Google's cache. There was some question is to the legitimacy of the OP, but he claimed to be an authorised reseller.
