Ok so just a quick disclaimer because I know the majority of you on here are pretty ruthless with people who are attempting to do data recovery and not know what they're doing. I know the risks involved, how bad you can screw up the drive, how I am taking precious hard earned money from your dinner table.
Please don't perceive me as a dick as I am not. I am just preparing myself for the comments and reactions that I will receive from the majority of the posters on this forum, thatdellguy, BlackST, and Ann in particular.
I have a Samsung HD080HJ/P hard drive, not recognized in BIOS. It is not recognized by MHDD either. Upon plugging the drive into power, the drive will spin up, I cannot hear anything with the heads being activated or moving. After roughly 30 seconds or so the hard drive spins itself down. There is no visible damage on the PCB.
I bought another PCB for a board swap, received it, installed it, the drive starts, I can hear the heads click a few times, not in rapid succession but rather a few seconds apart and then the drive just stays spinning but is not recognized by BIOS.
I don't have any access to a DeepSpar Imager or PC3000 or any other various data recovery hardware.
The owner of this drive is not willing to pay for advanced data recovery and understands the risks of continuing to run this drive while attempting to see if any data can be recovered. So please spare the yelling and condescending posts.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? With the symptoms I listed does it sound like it's a mechanical problem that deals with the heads/spindle or possibly firmware related? Is there any possible way a board swap with perhaps a closer match would work?
I am now ready for my whipping.
