Hitachi IDE 40GB Clicking

March 4th, 2012, 2:31

Hitachi IDE 40GB HTS421240H9AT00

Clicks non stop and then spins down.

Is this something I can do with Hyper Terminal or PC-3000? Or probably too complex and I should send it to a lab?

Hi,

You can't do much to be honest.
Only thing you could do with it is to read nv-ram, to check if it's structure is ok, what I think it is, or else the drive probably would not spin.

So the problem might be related to heads or pre-amp. It's better to take it to a local lab for a quote.

Drive is pretty old so I would say Heads are gone.
