Need help identifying components on PCB. HELP please....

LOL. I know, my apologies. Going to post one first thing in the morning. One general question before showing my board is that once I removed the burnt diode which I assume is the 5v TVS, do I bridge the gap between those contacts as well as bridging the zero ohm resistor?

No!

Also it is relatively uncommon for the 5V TVS to be damaged due to overvoltage, so perhaps your assumption is incorrect. IMHO as well as supplying the promised photo, it would help if you also explain the history i.e. what was the series of events leading to the current situation?

Finally, here is a link to my PCB photo. Notice the diode that I had to remove in the upper right hand side behind the charger port. Trying to figure out what the components near it are and what needs to be bridged. Heres the photo link, http://www.flickr.com/#/photos/77872404@N08

That link doesn't work (at least not for me) - all I get at the moment is a generic Flickr page. Also you haven't given any history of the current situation, nor the current symptoms of the drive (your comment about "Nonworking" PCB will mean different things to different people, depending on exactly what voltage / resistance / signal measurements you've taken, and those results).

That is only something to do in a specific situation, and only after you have considered and accepted the risks of DIY (i.e. you might be digging yourself into a hole that leads to more expensive/difficult professional repair later, if you are unsuccessful). Without better info from you, I don't see how anyone can sensibly advise you.

What is the tannish brown component or diode directly next to that area, and does that piece require the solder bridge to close the open circuit?

It's likely to be a capacitor, based on its shape, colour & size. An LCR meter (for example) would help to confirm this. I can't see its likely circuit connections well enough in the supplied photo. It's less likely, but possible, that it's an inductor - although I doubt it.

Impossible to answer without further investigation - but if it's a capacitor as I expect, then no. In any case, I politely suggest that you stop thinking in terms of bridging anything, without a better diagnosis of the real problem. You risk causing much more damage (or even starting a fire) if you start bridging components (i.e. causing intentional short circuits) without a proper diagnosis - and this forum (which is only for hard disk issues) is not the correct place for that diagnosis. Good luck with your investigation.
