March 11th, 2012, 18:54

Hi Folks,

I got a Segate Momentus 5400.6 500GB with dead heads.
I need to replace the heads and looking for a donor, i can't find the exact parameters on the market and wanted to get your advice on how to choose the right donor for heads replacement to this model.
The patient drive details:
Segate Momentus 5400.6 500GB
ST9500325AS
PN: 9HH134-035
FW: D003DEM1
Site: WU

I can't find the exact parameters, but i found donors as the following:
Segate Momentus 5400.6 500GB
ST9500325AS
PN: 9HH134-287
FW: 0003SDM1
Site: WU
Or another one:
Segate Momentus 5400.6 500GB
ST9500325AS
PN: 9HH134-500
FW: 0001SDM1
Site: SU
PCB # is same as patient.

Any advise would be great.
Cheers,
Oded

I'm no data recovery professional, but don't you need to match the first three characters of the serial number? AIUI, these reflect the place of manufacture, platter type, and number and type of heads.

I am not sure that should be enough but maybe I am wrong, I believe that the white stickers on the preamps should indicate the similarity. Also, some heads used in identical models are different.

You should be good to go if you match model and site code. There are some rare occasions where you'll get a 'perfect' donor and it won't be perfect, but model and site code should be good enough to find yourself a suitable donor.

So in your example, the first option should be fine.
