Hitachi Deskstar PCB

Hi, I am new here. I am having a problem with my hitachi hd, it had a corrupt OS so I hooked it up to a sata-usb device to recover data. The drive will no longer spin up I have tried alt. power source removing diode at D4 (#1 in pic) nothing. Looked into doing a pcb swap, I bought a hitachi drive same model same p/n but diff mlc and firmware. Will the pcb from the new drive work in the old?...also I did a resistance test with a multimeter on componet (#2 in pic) and I am not getting a reading at all? Thanks for any help I really need some data off this drive!

Before you remove the flex cable from the motor connector, you need to withdraw the two locking tabs.

That said, did you measure the resistance of D4, and if so, was it zero ohms?

Instead of measuring the resistance of component #2, measure the voltages on each of its pins. You don't need to install the board on the drive when doing this. Also measure the voltages at the pads of D4. Use the Molex ground pins as your 0V reference.

Thanks for the reply, I will post some test results later tonight. I guess what my main questions is I think this pcb may be fried. If I am looking for a new pcb I need to match the first 2 lines on the sticker and then transplant u5 and u7 is this correct? Thanks

U5 only. I think if you transfer U7 the donor PCB will not spin up as I remember.Another members may confirm that.

Are you sure ROM is not U7?

AIUI, the "NVRAM" is U5. That's what you need to transfer.

"RL76" is a microwire serial EEPROM.

U7 is a serial flash memory.

As long as you are performing voltage measurements, you may as well measure the pins of Q3, Q1, and the two 100uH coils.
