Seagate Momentus 5400.2

March 28th, 2012, 4:55

Ok, so i have this hard-drive that won't spin up.

Seagate Momentus 5400.2
model: st98823as
sn: 5pk341qf
PCB: 100397877 Rev B

The problem seems to be a fried smd near the sata power connector.
The smd has a stripe on one side, and "KEU" marking, with a small dot under the "U", but i don't know if it's a capacitor or a diode.
Can anyone tell me what "KEU" means? Couldn't find anything on SMD Marking Codes pdf found on google.

Regards

"KE" is the marking code for a 5V TVS diode. If it's shorted, and if it's connected between the +5V supply and ground, then remove it.

Thaks for reply! In the meantime i found out that, indeed, it's a 5V TVS diode.
I removed it so i was able to backup all the data.
Being hard to find such a diode i left the hdd without it....

all the best
