Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
First post... I had a look through the general area and FAQ, couldn't find anything relevant...
It's a fairly general question really - I had my PC fail yesterday. I diagnosed it as a power supply failure, and was pleased when the new P/S I bought worked OK. However... blowing the P/S seems to have damaged a HDD, a WD Caviar Green 500gig, and it will not now power up. Tried it in a couple of PCs, different power cables, different SATA cables, and in an external enclosure. Nothing.
So I assume it is dead. But - is it possible that it's just blown the electronics (or whatever I should call them) and that the data on the media would still be accessible and recoverable if I could somehow get the device to power up? And if so how feasible would that be - not for an idiot like me, but presumably by a specialist? Or is it more likely the entire device has been fried?
Any guidance welcome!

First you have to unscrew the PCB. Then post a picture of the PCB here, maybe its TVS problem and someone here could help you.

Well, I don't have the tool to unscrew the PCB... all I really want to know is , given the circumstances of the HD failure, how likely is it that the data would be recoverable by a suitably skilled technician?

It depends on the failure. ( i.e Precise diagnosis required )

Highly likely if no further tampering actions with the drive are taken by someone unqualified.

As long as there is no media damage, successful recovery is very likely.

OK, thanks for that. Much appreciated.
