I need to install a new hard drive in an Imac. The original hard drive is a Wd 500gb. I have a new WD 500gb and a new 1gb WD hard drive but neither will work in the Imac. It wont boot off cd when those hard drives are in it but if I but old one back it will boot. I found this

Given the increasing rate of heat-related failures in Mac's, it's probably a good thing.
What is the model of the old drive in your iMac?

If it's a newer imac, you'll need to get a hard drive from Apple; the firmware on the drives is modified. I don't know of a way around this.
