Looking for Professional recovery recommendations

April 14th, 2012, 7:47

Hey all, I have a Toshiba MK3265GSX which from looking around on the forums I see other people having issues with. The drive, when connected to Windows, will mount the recovery partition, then unmount it, then Explorer.exe will freeze until I disconnect the drive (USB enclosure). In Knoppix Live CD, the drive will mount, and then after a few seconds will unmount, then mount, then unmount, over and over again. Dell's diagnostic program kept finding inaccessible blocks, until the diagnostic program itself crashed.

To me this sounds like a problem with the physical components in the HDD. If y'all agree with me, I'd rather send it to a professional, but I'd rather send it to somebody who is recommended rather than somebody I found on the internet randomly. I live in Southeast MN, USA, if location makes any difference.

Thank you in advance!

There is to name a few

Jono is in Georgia (I think)
Thatdellguy is in California
Quasimodo is in Florida

This can start off and others will add to the list. But you are right it does need to go to someone who has the right tools to handle this and be able to clone it for you and get off your data. In this condition it will not clone for you using free software and you need a tools in order to handle a drive like this one

I'm assuming these are all forum member names that I can/should PM?

yes they are all pros that come highly recommanded to send your HDD to. Not sure now if you can send a PM being new but this is how it works.

After some activity i.e. posting / answering on threads, PMs will be enabled.

I second what Ann said, you have at least 3 to start from - anyway shipping within USA should be NO problem at all.
