Dead Seagate 2TB, fused TVS, searching for replacement

April 23rd, 2012, 12:35

Hi all,
please forgive my english errors, i'm from italy :)
i need help with this hard drive:
Seagate 100536501 REV A V60131 Barracuda 7200.12
Board Number: 100536501 REV A
Main Controller IC: V60131
HDD Motor Combo IC: SH6968B
Brand: Seagate Barracuda PCB

the drive was totally dead, so i've been able to open the device and check the problem was the chip
of electricity overpower protection, which got burnt due to the use of
a wrong ac/dc adapter.
Cutting off the chip from the pcb, i've been able to recovery data
from the drive, but now i'm looking for a replacement for the fused TVS to
have again the drive in totally efficience.
the problem is i don't know what to use to replace the TVS...buying the same pcb online sure could solve my problem, but the cost is crazy (about 45$ for the whole PCB), and the cost for the TVS only if i'll be able to find a replacement, will be for sure less than the whole PCB...but i don't know any technical info about this piece :?
the only thing i can see is on the TVS there's this sign "KVP06M"
already asked to seagate and told me nothing
asked to Texas Instruments too, hoping was a TI made chip, but resulted is not made by them

any help will be appreciated

much thanks

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

... and http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diodes.txt

An SMBJ12A will do nicely as a replacement.

The original part (TPSMB13A) was made by General Semiconductor (Vishay).

KVP06M = 12V TVS, unidirectional, General Semiconductor (Vishay)
KVP = TPSMB13A, 06M -> 0 = 2010, 6 = month June, M= factory designator
