That's deliberate damage - I saw that mentioned on a website recently, as something which some (unethical) DR companies do, when their quote is refused (allegedly).

A screwdriver on the loose.... but maybe there was an arm attached to it.
I think the customer knows....

the client said its dead hdd, needed his data
but seems someone was angry with this client and did this (i think)

It would be interesting if the customer explained where that disk had been taken, after it was removed from the system - and also if they explained what the original problem was. If the original problem was not "disk won't spin" then obviously that damage cannot be the original problem!

I have a similar case here now.

Do you have any information that the disk went to another DR company first? And presumably their quote was refused...?

I have not ever seen anything this blatant from another DR company. There are lots of more effective and less obvious ways for someone who knows what they are doing to screw up a drive.

Agreed - but perhaps that is the point; the people doing this
don't know anything more subtle...
I wish I could remember the website where I saw a photo of similar damage, after a refused quote from a DR company. *sigh* If I remember, then I'll post it.

The circuit yes thats just what I was thinking!
I wonder how easy it will be to get at the data?

Let's wait and see :p

We have a bunch over here that seem to, on rejected quotes or failed attempts, degauss or do something similar so that the servo labels and screwed. Every drive I've got which has been past them has had the same 'issue'.
Does my head in.
