Western Digital 320GB

Hello,
I have a Western Digital 320GB WD3200AAJS-00B4​A0, 2061-701537-G00 AE, SATA Hard Drive (Date of production: 18 Jul 2008, 2060-701537-003 REV A imprinted on the PCB) on which the PCB is not working. I've found a PCB on the donordrives site with a near exact match: "Western Digital 320GB WD3200AAJS-22B4​A0, 2061-701537-G00 AE, SATA PCB", the only difference is the 22 instead of 00 after AAJS. Another near match would be the "Western Digital 320GB WD3200AAJS-00B4A0, 2061-701537-G00 AC, SATA 3.5" Circuit Board" with an AC at the end instead of AE. What would be the better match? I wrote to them and they reccommended this PCB: "Western Digital 320GB WD3200AVJS-63B6A0, 2061-701537-G00 AED4", but i don't get it why this would be better.
The second problem is, that there is no 8-pin ROM chip on the PCB (empty U12 place, no other 8-Pin chip). What would be the chances that the exchange will help my HDD? How could i get the PCB to work with my drive? Or is the chip not necessary for this HDD?

The problem with the hard drive is, that it doesn't react at all in an external enclosure and if i put it into my normal PC, the mainboard detects a short circuit and would not react at all (except a pretty short turn of the CPU fan). If I unplug the drive everything works fine, so I am relatively sure it is a problem in the PCB.

Search the forum for TVS instead of replacing the entire PCB- which is not DIY-.

ok, the TVS diode really seems to be broken. would it be safe to remove it and plug the hdd directly into my pc? without a new diode i wouldn't like to try the external enclosure again. alternatively i would order a new diode and replace it first. and probably order a new external enclosure.

I would replace the broken diode then connect the drive directly without the external enclosure.

Congatulations petz glad it was a simple fix & it is working.
Just remember to keep a regular backup of your data that way you wont be in this situation again.

I think you need to re read this thread..... the PCB was not replaced...
