WD20EARS-00MVWB0 Dont Detected by BIOS

May 30th, 2012, 16:19

Hi,

Have WD20EARS-00MVWB0 taken from Buffalo HDD case reformated Alligned, but then was trying to copy to it at least 1 GB of data got error Write Delayed Failed! and it disapeared from device manager. So booted from Hiren's bot CD and ran HDAT2, tried to repair bad sectors at beggining found 96. Interupted because thought to do this at night. Had restarted PC and after all it is not recognized even in BIOS. What could be wrong? Firmware damaged? HDD is spinning. Had luck about 2 times from 20 reboot then it was recognized by BIOS but it wont appear in Device manager then. Then reboot it not recognized by BIOS again.

HDD date:26 JUL 2011
SN: WCAZA8962831
Firmware 51.0AB51 (if not mistaken cant see because BIOS dont detects HDD)

Please help anybody. HDD is empty but i cant return it to the selller

No posibility to FIX it? Firmware rewrite or something?
WD warranty checker gives NO LIMITED WARRANTY-C40.

Product was originally sold to a system manufacturer. Please contact the system manufacturer or the place of purchase for warranty service.

Yes but maybe not by you as at least HW tools for diagnose are needed. Do you know a profesisonal in your area who has the tools ? You can ask to fix it (need to make at least it ID) then solve the other problem. Note that you can also have a head problem, that may or cannot be fixed.

@vierchatura,

FYI, based on the symptoms that you described, the real underlying problem cannot be corrected by "reformatting" the disk as you mention. Your apparent success now is just luck, and is likely to be temporary. Therefore since the drive is not really fixed, it should not be relied on, if you care about the data which you put on it IMHO.
