Seagate HDD 500GB 2.5" with broken PCB

June 5th, 2012, 21:47

Dear all
An over-voltage had been applied mistakenly and result in one component burnt-out.
Does anyone help me to know the type of this component (resistor, capacitor, or inductor) and its value?
Best Regards to all

The component looks like a 5V TVS diode.

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

Thanks fzabkar very much for these valuable information.
I will try to remove burnt TVS diode, and check if the hard will work or not.
I know i may be little bit dangerous for the HDD to be without protection.

Thanks again
