This drive doesn't match any data sheets for being a 400gb hard drive. I think its been mislabelled for a MK4055GSX.

When you input the serial number into the "View Warranty Coverage" webpage it says "Invalid Serial Number".

I had both before. Both customers told me that they tried to format the drive and it suddenly turned into 20GB.

If you're going to label a Seagate as a WD, at least put the WD label on the correct way up!

This is absurd, I am trying to understand this.
So what situation would a consumer get these drives?
Buying off Ebay? Goaing to a dodgy part of the world and buying a cheap drive so that you dont notice until you get home?
Wouldnt the bad feedback on ebay you would get make this hard to sustain?
In the case of a face to face sale, wouldnt the possibility of a consumer, like me, coming back smashing your face in be a discouraging factor?
Or do they "pepper in" a few of these drives every dozen or 50 or so.. so the feedback stays at an acceptable level?
I shouldnt be surprised, I have seen the dodgy thumb drives first hand, and on this forum. A friend of mine showed me pictures of a "camera" his mum bought oversesas. Box was shrinkwrapped and had a label saying tax would be payable unless box was "consumed" in australia, or something like that. Box had rocks in it. And I played around with an ipod touch that I could not get to work, and noticed that the OS didnt look like Apple, and was a VERY basic MP3 player with 8-bit like graphics. The case and buttons were sloppy, and even still I actually thought it was an Apple iPod. Apple guy at an Apple shop showed me all the tell tale signs it was fake.
but these drives still amaze me
when opened
