Hi there,
QUESTION: Can the Master File Record be restored to a partition? Essentially, can we recreate what the drive was before the formatting took place?
WHAT HAPPENED(1). We accidentally formatted our drive
(2). I took a partial backup image of the drive. When it took too long (1TB drive), I cancelled it but saved the *.pmf (Partition Guru) file.
(3). We tried to recreate the MBR and repartition it. The process took about 5 minutes but now the data is no longer accessible.
(4). We tried using some recovery tools and the folder structure and file names have become unrecognizable. We can still recover some of the data with LOST FILE___ filenames.
SO FAR(1) These are the details of the partial image file. Note that it incorrectly displays the size as 77.9GB because its a partial recovery
(2) These are the details of the drive after formatting and re-partitioning.
(3) I have been able to recover the system files ($MFT, etc) from the partial image *.PMF. See screenshot
HOW DO I?Recreate the 931 GB hard disk drive so that it matches the original partition table before formatting? Also, how do I copy all the system file records so that they point to the right sections of the drive? I am hoping these two steps will let me recover the files with the file / folder structure intact.
Absolutely any help is appreciated.
