Cannot use maxtor hdd as usb external drive,help!!

Hi,Im new in this awesome forum.I have old maxtor diamondmax16 4R080L0 80GB that works on my old PC :

512 sdram
intel 845

as a slave drive. But when i try to using it as external hdd using usb to ide converter on my new PC:
intel G620 2,6Ghz
2GB ddr3
asrock intel h61 chipset

its not working,BIOS not detect it and strangely the hdd doesnt look like spin,the power supply is from adaptor that bundled with the converter. But my other disk (samsung,seagate) had no problem with it. So, this usb to ide converter not the problem. Actually couple month ago this maxtor hdd had no problem (works normal) when using it as external drive using the same converter device. But a month ago the partition lost because my pc hangs when i try to check hdd error using windows tools.I try to recover using test disk,hdd doctor but no luck. But after using low level format its works again but new problem appear as it cannot use as external drive or even using it as sata drive using ide to sata converter. Anybody had an idea what happen to this hdd?is it a firmware problem?can it be fixed?thanks for your concern

Have you tried re-connecting it to your old PC again? Does it work then?

If you can get it to work as a slave drive again, I would copy all the files and junk it. Older drives are usually scheduled at some point to fail, and unfortunately it's not at your convenience!

Sorry for late reply,yes HDRA this disk works normally both master and slave using 40 pin ide cable but doesnt work when paired with any kind of converter (Ide to usb,ide to sata) .Its works first time i buy it,but it doesnt works anymore after lost partition problem.I use this disk as ps2 usb external HDD but since right now cannot use it with usb ide converter this thing is useless. Oh i forgot to tell that this disk have ever accidentally drop by myself from 5cm height,from then it always sound rough "click" when use. Any idea what wrong about this stupid disk???can it be fixed so i can use it as usb external again like long ago..or maybe just like HDRA said,should i junk it hope not....
