Remove protected password and recover data from external HD

July 7th, 2012, 14:12

I have an external HD My Book Essential 2TB, HD model is WD20EACS - 11BHUB0, one day I was backing up my files over 100GB, it suddenly went off and on again, I felt weird and restarted my computer (drive already ejected, but usb still in plug), after that everytime I enter my password -->
*The drive won't show up,
*windows Explorer not responding for a long time,
*went off automatically ,
*and Give me warning to format the drive.

When I go to My Computer > Manage , it tells me to initialize the MBR and showing Unallocated 1.8TB then I cried.. I took off the USB unclosure and find colorization on pcb and little on HD's PCB then..
*I tried use soft pencil eraser and erase some colorization area but not working,
*I tried connect my HD using internal SATA cable ofcourse it is not working,
*I tried using testdisk and getbackmydata to recover my all files but not working because it has password protected
*I buy a new USB enclosure in ebay but the items hasn't yet come..
*I was planning to format the drive and recover the formatted drive but it's to risky and stupid

Is that possible if I unlock the Hard Disk which store inside the pcb firmware and get rid the password protection then recover my data? I found software like MHDD or another unlocking software like PC3K and Repair-Station. can those software works under my case? PS: I know the password, please guide me or give me some hints about my problems, if have another suggestion I am very grateful. I just want to recover my files, it stores all my working files for 10 years
and I don't care about the drive anymore, this is the forth time I deal with WD products
1st burn out, 2nd partition lost 1TB become 99GB, 3rd same with the 2nd, 4th ????(not sure what happen), and I am stupid enough keep using their products..

note: I hope my english is understandable, I am from asia.

Thanks for any help :o

Drive is locked up not by password, but by firmware. Something wrong happened and drive decided to give up. I remember days when bad sectors could ruin my day. Now it will riun all your data, but data recovery specialist can perhaps put back 99%.

Not much you can do yourself, sorry.

Find a data recovery company. This is the best option to recover your files!

I agree especially if your data is important enough to warrent the cost.
