Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a 250gb toshiba laptop drive. I did a scan with MHDD. I got a lot of bad blocks right at the last GB of the disk. over 200+. and tons of blocks that had high read time 500ms+.
For instance, the first 249GB of disk took 1 hour to scan, the last 1GB about 40 minutes or so.
has anyone seen this? and what is the diagnosis? at the moment that space is not allocated on my disk, so I am good to keep using it I hope. has MAC OS on it.
one dumb questions, during the "live" mhdd scan, is it sorting sectors or blocks by read-time on the GUI? the log file for the makelog command seems to return sector-specific data, so I'm confused.

Seen a lot of times.
Solution : backup and replace as a DEFINITIVE solution is not doable by end user.
