Hi all new here would like some advice with some data loss.

July 18th, 2012, 1:32

I had a power cut (no UPS), and when I started computer next time all data on my 1TB Seagate barracuda 7200.12 was gone. The drive is Raw, but partitions are still there, I havnt messed with it at all, I just unplugged it and moved on, figured better to look at recovery wen I'd calmed down. I am running win7 ultimate. My main questions are A good recovery program, I'm happy to buy one. And I'm guessing I need to format the drive to attempt recovery? As I stated earlier the drive is Raw at this point, with 3 partitions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try R-Studio (http://www.r-tt.com/)

See if it can recover your data and if it does, just buy the license.

It is always safer to image your drive to another drive using some NON-windows software (like ddrescue or Mediatools) first and then play with the cloned drive.

Good luck.

Do NOT format the drive.

Unless there are other problems with the drive, the logical data structure should have sustained minimal damage and a successful recovery should be possible, beginning with Northwind's recommendations.

Also, do not allow any Windows utilities, such as chckdsk, run on your drive when attached to the machine. Hence, recommendation for non-Windows tools.

Should you choose to move forward with a DIY solution, have a solid plan and suggest that you practice on a test drive.

If the data is important, the alternative is taking it to a professional for an evaluation. Should not be expensive at this point, unless it sustained other issues. And even then, it depends on what these specific issues are.

Well its not looking good, I backed up and deleted everything on one of my spare drives to practice on, and R-Studio recovered everything on the drive perfectly. But I have made no progress with my main drive, R-studios scans come up with nothing.

Cheers for the help.
