0 LBA issue help! Seagate momentus

July 20th, 2012, 13:39

Hi, I have a laptop hdd, a seagate momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS. The disk came with an Asus G60VX laptop. Its almost 3 years old. The disk spins up well and is detected in the Device Manager but not BIOS. Ive diagnosed the problem to be the 0 LBA issue as described here.

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/145751- ... -solution/

The disk is seen in device manager and in disk management console of windows. But error occurs when I tried to initialize it.

My question is whether reflashing the firmware can solve this problem? Or do I have to get my hand dirty with the HDD diagnostic commands? BTW for those who think Id be better off giving this job up to a data recovery engineer, the data is not quite important to me but Id really like another working HDD (even a temporary one) right now.

Thanks in advance
