WD5000AAKB bricked, new pcb?

July 27th, 2012, 1:41

My WD5000AAKB suddenly can no longer be detected. Mechanically it seems fine. On power on it spins up and the head appears to seek a few times but then it spins down. No clicking or unusual sounds. BIOS reports 'drive failed' during IDE detection. I tried several computers and cables to be sure it is definitely the drive. Also MHDD cannot detect the drive (EID returns drive does not support LBA mode or not detected) but can issue a reset to it and it spins up/seeks a few times/spins down.

Any ideas? Does this sound like a bad PCB? The PCB does not appear damaged.

Thanks in advance for helping.
Eric
