I have an old drive from a discarded Toshiba Laptop. The HDD is password protected and I would like to salvage the drive. Not having a Toshiba laptop my 25pin hardware fix is useless. I am not interested in the DATA on the drive. I am requesting help to simply partition it.

Thanks for a reply! Yes, I have explored for hours. I have ran hiren's? Utility. The toshiba utility can't identify the drive and consistently claims the drive is bad (expected). However, the MHDD utility identifies all pertinent data about the drive. I have tried the MHDD tools to remove ata password and am stuck where it asks me to enter a password up to 32sym. I take it 32sym means 32 characters. Confusing ... If I knew the password Iwouldn't be here. Next I'll try 32 "*'s". Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the link....but a smarter solution would be purchase a new drive for $50 with warranty. Key word here is salvage. I give dated laptops to local public schools when I can repair them. With that said I think spending $25-30 on an unknown drive is throwing good money after bad. My time is free as I am a retired I@E/controls engineer and my first with a hdd ata pass. It will come sooner than later As time prevails all. Thanks again for the link!
