My Hard Drive doesn't spin up but I hear a quiet ticking sound when powered on. Is this a PCB problem or bad motor? I have read some post suggesting It might be the PCB board.

Agreed, assuming it is actually a "quiet ticking" rather than "buzzing"

First thing to do is get a PCB with the same P/N (e.gl 2060-001640-001) and see if the drive spins up (it won't work properly with a straght PCB swap). If is does then...

Check the PCB for a 8-pin chip at U12. If it is present then you will need to move this chip to a donor PCB. If you accept the consequences of DIY then it's possible.

If there is no chip at U12 then the PCB has internal ROM which will require pro services to "manufacture" a new PCB. Not possible DIY.

Is the data worth $300 or more? If so, you might be better off getting it assessed by a pro before you tamper with it. This way, the pro's price will be the lowest possible with the highest odds of success. In the even that they say it is unrecoverable, you don't waste any of your time and if they quote too high, you can either seek a second opinion or then try your own methods.

there is a lot of different AAKS drives. In some cases PCB can be the culprit. In some cases its head/media. Diagnostics needed.

Sure. Put it on a known good drive of the same model, after re-programming the ROM to match. If it doesn't work, the PCB is bad.

So there is no way to test the PCB to see if it's bad without a new PCB. Right.

Not true. With dedicated equipment in few minutes you get a comprehensive test.

Hi there, my HDD is not working and i am almost 100% sure that it is my PCA. the model is : Samsung 500gb HM502JX. Do you guys think if i try to get the same PCB model and replace it with old one i would be able to access my data?
I live in a small town and i brought it to one local shop but he cant do anything.. maybe he doeant know so i dont have other choice pls..
