i found board of same model hdd and replaced it now my hdd is shown in bios but not in xp..
what to do ?
getdataback in xp is also not showing any partition..

is there any such software with which i can create an image of the hdd so i can recover further data from the image ?

i tried acronis disk director suite boot cd and it is showing the entire hdd as one un partitioned space ..

Do you see in Device Manager? If not, do you see the correct capacity for the drive in BIOS?

- Spinning up, not spinning up? Any noise when powering up?
- What reports in BIOS and utilities like MHDD or HDAT2? I mean model number, LBA.
- What is burnt in PCB? PCB picture if possible, to assess damages.
- Full details of hard drive and both PCB's, sure there are compatible?
- Did you possible plug Molex power plug in reverse? If yes, more damages are possible inside HDA

thaks for kind and fast replies.

@labtech
no its not shown in windows xp device manager .. i attached it through the ide cable . but in bios it was showing correct size..

@SAjunky

yes spinning and i dont hear any unusual sound. all is as it was..at least sound wise....

- What reports in BIOS and utilities like MHDD or HDAT2? I mean model number, LBA.

in bios it is reported and its shown as 81.4gb same as it used to be... exact model of hdd and its other details .. i will post them when i get to home ..

- What is burnt in PCB? PCB picture if possible, to assess damages.

only one ic was burnt .. it burnt before my eyes..

- Full details of hard drive and both PCB's, sure there are compatible?

to the best of my knowledge all the model.series.numer matched .. unfortunatly i left the old pcb at the shop where i got this board....

no it was not reversed...

ALSO a little good news .. i ran 'acronis disk director suite ' partition recover wizard and it did showed 2 of my partitons and with correct sizes .. and this process of discovering was almost half done.. but suddenly light went (blackout which is extremely frequent here as well as unpredictable...)

so is there any software which rewrites the partitions as it were .. i mean it creates same layout of it as it was ? as the data on media is not touched ?

but before proceding to next step i first need to create a backup . in current situations which software can i use.. as it is not showing any partition .. is there any software that should just copy all the disk into a single file like in my situation .. all that i found are those which need the harddisk to be properly formated and partitioned ...

Thanks

I would image/clone the drive to a healthy media just in case the drive goes kaput.

Can try R-Studio demo - if it sees your files and you want to recover, then purchase.

If want free, then there are some other options, such as: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

hi,
first try to get your old pcb, maybe shopkeeper still have it.
post photos from your old and hew board including every sticker details along with board version of the both.
you may also need your old board to swap E2P from it to new board as may contain some important data of your hdd like calibration etc, without these recovery may not work.

still you can try with LIVE-LINUX version, google it you may find 100's, to be fast search "puppylinux" its less than 200mb.

do not play with your hdd, unless you get your old pcb and advise from other various HDD-GURUS here in the forum.

i am not a guru, so ask other guru's what i said, take your own wise decision accordingly.

For imaging you can use many things depending on your technical/software knowledge and comfort.

I am not very familiar with it, but members here suggested DMDE, which is simpler to use apparently. I believe the imaging feature is free.

Can you post the 5 alphanumeric character string on the back of the PCB located by the data connector? For both, old and new PCBs?
