WD10TMNN has bad cylinder,please help me,please!

It was too bad,I droped the wd passport and try to recovery some data to a new disk, but many files cann't be copy because I/O error. After tens on/off,the hd cann't be found by PC now. After three times clicking it stop spinning. The light is always on.

I have to open it and see bad cylinder as the attached photo.

I know there are many gurus here,I need your advice,appreciate any reply!

How to replair it?
1.Should I replace the head suit with a new HDD at first? any new wd1t with 6 heads is ok?
2.Does it mean the head cann't find service sector and make the pc cann't find it?
3.why the heads go back when it walked near the bad cylinder?
4.is there any software force the head go to 0 cylinder to get service info?

heheh, by opening the hdd on such env. i can not only GUESS, i can say, you have no idea about what you are involving ur drive/client into

there is NO SUCH not even PATENT for such

you will need more than that

and for this drive, to the nearest Garbage close to you my friend.

"PROBABLY" it was recoverable in the beginning, now "maybe" only some fragments of data and it's gonna cost a lot of $$$. And not by you.

In my opinion if there was a probability about recovering data, powering the device and then opening it have reduced the chances to less than 1% , AND FORGET what was on the damaged top surface.

It is my disk, I focus on how to recovry data by myself, because the local DR opened it and told me it is impossible to get any data, maybe they are not real guru.

I saw the DR replaced head in a mini room on the desk , i don't think it is so clean, but every thing is ok, his business is very good in the computer shop.

gurus, why the head go back when it touched baad cy? does it mean the head can never arive at 0 cy?

Because 'new' head was killed when it surfed the damaged area.
You can't do anything by yourself without dedicated equipment and know how and nobody will teach you for free, this drive in any case is compromised. Assuming 'something' is possible it will be partial , and the cost will be very high. Personally I would reject your case straight away or you'd have to pay me in advance a set of donors and every attempt regardless of outcome. That's life and how DR goes !
You have to accept it or forget data and drive and move on.

I am in a developing country,so the cost is not high as in a developed country. But I cann't find real guru or DR nearby, and I cann't find the WD engineer in my country,the hdd was made abroad, so I will try it as possible by myself, otherwise I should go to USA to contact real gure,that is impossible for me now.

20 years ago I am good at DOS secrets and DEBUGing, now I am internetworking guy,our company could make switcher and router as Cisco or Juniper's. we could program fireware or replace any PCB chips. As a geek, I think there has a way to try,but I know we are not good at HDD,so I need real guru's advice.

Any guru could give me some advice ?

1. where is the 0 cy of wd10t? at the edge or at the center?
2. how to force the new heads to check the whole platter surface? I think there is a way forbiding the new heads walking to the bad cylinder.
3. may I use a new hdd's signal to cheat this one as good platter ,or with a oscilloscope in our lab to cheat it.

Appreciate any advice!
