7200.7 Please identify missing element.

The chip was broken in half (before completely peeled off), black plastic remain suggests resistor. I need to know value of this resistor. I have similiar 7200.7, but MPU is ST, not Agere. Strange, on this PCB connected to the same MPU pin is capacitor (brown), but I am sure it was black.

I had a look for you today, but could not find an exact match.

I found a very similar board, and measured the resistance. But the reading was completely different depending on the polarity, and changed with time.

I have not studied electronics for a long time (so have forgotten a lot), but is it likely to be a capacitor?

The component is very small, and I could not see any markings on it. I will try and find a microscope to look at it.

Yes , it is very small, but colour should be noticed. Is it light brown like other capacitors or black?
If it is black, then is important to know resistance. I forgoten to mention that only meassurement on the lowest 200 Ohm range is valid. So please turn off autorange (if present) and select manual 200 Ohm range. Any higher range will open internal junctions inside chip. On my PCB resistance is outside the range.
Also please confirm that the chip this element is connected to is Agere, not ST. This is the largest chip on PCB.

I measured the resistance (on a cheap multimeter) on the 200 Ohm scale and it read 1 (that is, off the scale).

The component is not really black, and appears the same as the component further down towards the IDE interface.

Cris, you are fantastic! This is definitely capacitor. Probably bypassing cap and value is not critical. I will put some around 10nF and see what happen.
