Low level format problem with Transcend pHDD 2.5" 320GB

October 13th, 2012, 0:33

recently my portable HDD is not working properly, 'formating device' error kept showing up. So I decided to use Windows normal format tool (slow format), and at about 80% I got error "device unplugged" and "windows cannot recognize device" even though It still connected. After reading Transcend manual about recovery HDD, I used HDD low level format tool 4.25 with low level format option. This time it stopped at 87% with same error, plus "Format Error occurred at offset ....". I tried again and it stopped at 11%, same error "Format Error occurred at offset ...".

Can anyone help we what is going on with my HDD ?

You do format, means you don't need data or there is important data on other patrition of the same drive?
Secondly, it is important to know this new device or it was working well before on the same computer? If new device, you might have power delivery problems. Do you use original USB cable, assuming it is USB device? Try different USB port and (possibly) Y cable (two plugs to the host).

I have back-up files so it wont be problem with me. Im using pHDD to copy files from work to home.

It worked perfectly in my computer and others too, till one day when I was transferring data from working place PC to pHDD then I got "Delayed Write Failed" error, since then it became unstable, some file corrupted right after I copied to it.

Tried different USB port, always use Y cable.

Look for warranty replacement. If it is not an option, then open a case and look what drive is inside. It could be some common firmware lockups, but it usually indicate deterioration of heads. I wouldn't trust such drive anymore, even it is repaired.
