Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi Gurus,
My samsung HD204UI stopped working a few weeks ago and I'd like to get it sorted. The symptoms match those of a fried TVS diode, but I'm the first to admit that I know nothing about this. So I'd like to get it fixed professionally. I hear about cowboys and rip off merchants and was wondering if there were any professionals you could recommend? Preferably in or around Glasgow, Scotland.
On a "totally unrelated note", what, if anything, do professionals do if your "mate" has left some not-entirely-paid-for movies/tv shows on the drive that needs fixed?
Thanks

Thank you man. I don't suppose he has a website or e-mail? I don't seem to have the permissions to PM.
