Hi all,
I've got this WD Scorpio Black 500GB
MDL: WD5000BEKT-00KA9TO
DATE: 05 OCT 2010
DCM: HBCTJBBB
DCX: AK08A8599
PCB: 2061-771714-002 AC
which was installed in an Lacie Stark Firewire 800/USB2.0 external case. After over 1 yr. of operation and on a restart after power failure to the Mac it was attached to it is now dead.
On removal drive was very hot and burnt smell comes from it (and from the USB adapter PCB). Moved to another SATA adapter, the drives does not spin (no gyro effect) but an high pitch noise comes from it, no clicking or other noises.
I've got an exact same model/rev/pcb drive and do care about at least some of the data in it. Before I try to find a professional service, can you please advice on what could have happened and if trying to swap the PCB would be of any help in diagnose/data recover?
Thanks.

I'd say it is wiser and safer to let a pro do the diagnosis. BlackST...HDD Guru's Italian pro.

Hi,
I received a PM from rd-simone, but cannot reply since I'm a new user.

Simone, can you please send me a contact address so I can send you the details you requested?
Thanks.
