Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 320GB

Hello everyone,

I got a weired case of the following drive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 320GB
Model: ST3320418AS
S/N: 6VM7DWPH
Firmware: CC66

The drive stays on BSY state without making clicking noise or bad sound.
On the terminal (PC3000) I got the following:
Rst 0x10M
SIM Error 2040
No HOST FIS-ReadyStatusFlags 2002A1A5
ASCII Diag mode

I tried shorting the read chanel of the drive than the following steps:
F3 T3>/2
F3 T3>Z
Realsing the short read chanel
F3 2>U
Spin Up Complete
F3 T3>/1
F3 1>N1
After this command I get of the following error:
Init SMART Fail

Rst 0x10M
Rst 0x10M
(P) SATA Reset

So I had to power off and power on the drive.
Than I repait the shoring chanel procedure and followed by this comand:
F3 T>m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22
Got this:
Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 00, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 0000

I reached SA modules through the sys files option
tools->Utility extentions->Hdd resources view and edit
I switched to "System files" and set next to read 2b translator module
Vol 0x03 File 0x028
Succeeded to read that module without any corruption.
Still the drive stays on BSY state.
The drive wasn't dropped to the floor or something.

Rst 0x08M
SIM Error 203F
No HOST FIS-ReadyStatusFlags 2002A1A5

BSY and have terminal access. Heads and PCB are good.

Thank you for the tip, are you sure about that eventhough the drive couldn't clear the S.M.A.R.T and rebuild the translator?

I noticed that pressing Ctrl + v on the terminal gives those different options (by every single press)

But Nick, if the drive stay in bsy it can't perform a smart clearing

Numerous novices at Seagate's forum have been able to solve this trivial problem with a bit of wire by following the instructions and photos that were provided. Someone who has done a hundred head swaps (as stated by you in 2010) should have no problem understanding such a simple task. If you really can't handle such a job, then send your PCB to a supplier who will transfer the flash memory for you for free. That should cost you $50 at most.

Otherwise, if you have a photo, then I'd like to see it. And this is the second time I'm asking you for it.
