October 31st, 2012, 17:21

I am new to this forum, so hello to everybody.
I have a Seagate Barracuda ATA III 30GB ST330620A with important data for me inside. About a week ago it stop working, the motor spin up but after a while it stops. I found a chip on the pcb burned. Is the pcb or the motor the cause of the problem? What the posibilities to be fixed if change the only the pcb?
thank you in advance

the image in not clear to view what you have said.
But if you can find another working PCB matching the above details, you can give it a try.
When the Chip is burnt, sometimes, there are chances of other damages to the drive also.
There are risks involved in DIY, be careful.

Search the forum, there are lots of information about what to look for in a matching pcb.

For A compatible PCB these should match
a) model and part number(should be the same)
b)firmware(should be the same)
c)Date(as nearest as possible to the failed drive)
d)site code

Sorry i am late to respond back.
I have found one (marked in red square) that i think it is compatible, the only difference is the date code. How risky is to change the pcb. The burnt chip is the one that spins up the motor?

It should work but the damage is severe i doubt your preamp is gone as well .

The controller is badly burnt, chances of preamp damages too.
The doner pcb should be a match, you can try it, but sometimes it can burn the new pcb too.
You have to decide, else take DR help

If you isolate the preamp connection pins on the pcb to the hda with a piece of card & then power up the drive does it spin up ok?
If so then try again without the card, does is spin up? If no then reattach the card & try powering it up again if it does not spin this time then the preamp is damaged & it has damaged the donor pcb
