WD3200KS recovery going very slow

Hi guys,

this week another one of my older WD's died. In the past i've had a lot of succes with recovering data but this one is acting up!

This strikes me as pretty strange as the HD never showed any signs of deterioration, ran smooth as a system drive. No clunking, no errors, except for that one BSOD this week, right before it completely died on me. I even defragmented it a few weeks ago with no issues.

Ive been running a superscan with Active@ Partition Recovery for the past 17hrs now and only read through 76mb so far, and its already given me about 150 bad sector warnings. As I'm no expert in this field, I'd like to know if these signs point to possible solutions to recover it faster?

I'm not familiar with superscan, but can only assume that you are beating the crap out of the drive without copying 1 byte of data to another drive. Stop what you are doing, diagnose the problem (heads, firmware, pcb, bad sectors, ect), remove major hurdles, and clone the drive. When you have secured a clone, then you can try file system recoveries with various programs.

If you don't have the tools and resources to diagnose and safely clone the drive, you should seek the assistance of a data recovery pro in your region.

Maybe there were NO problems that require more than your "little" intervention or they were just logical problems.

If your data is valuable, you should get a proper diagnosis from a pro.

If not, you should at least try to image the drive using an application that allows you to check defective sectors / areas.
